The Lautoka-Yasawa Subdivision Environmental Health Unit has intensified its efforts to combat the ongoing dengue outbreak in Lautoka, with a focused response in Matawalu Village. Yesterday’s activities included key initiatives aimed at raising awareness about source reduction to mitigate the spread of the disease.

Among the actions taken were a briefing with the local leaders, known as Turaga-ni-Koro, conducting vector surveillance across 20 households, and assessing water and sanitation conditions to ensure hygiene is maintained. Additionally, notices for a community cleanup campaign were distributed, accompanied by public announcements to reinforce the message.

Public health authorities are urging residents to stay alert and actively eliminate potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in these preventive measures.

With these proactive steps, there is hope that the combined efforts will help control the dengue outbreak and protect community health. Collaboration among local leaders and residents can foster a cleaner environment and safeguard against insect-borne diseases.
