Despite challenging weather conditions posed by Tropical Cyclone Urmila, the family of Harold Rounds, the co-captain of the Fijian Drua development team, demonstrated unwavering support by attending his match against Malolo Rugby at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Camari Lala, Rounds’ aunt, embarked on a five-hour journey from Suva early yesterday morning, determined to witness her nephew’s performance.

Lala expressed immense pride in Rounds, highlighting his humility and joy as he plays on such a significant stage for the first time. “He is my younger sister’s son. We are very much proud. All this is very new to him, and every time he sees the banner, the flags, or to see us on our feet, shouting and cheering, he shakes his head,” she noted. This familial support is particularly meaningful as Rounds is the eldest grandchild on both sides of the family.

The family’s commitment to attending the game despite the cyclone warnings illustrates their dedication. Lala mentioned there were suggestions to cancel their trip due to the extreme weather, but the family’s resolve to support Harold remained unshaken. “While we were planning to come down, we heard about Tropical Cyclone Urmila, but rain or sunshine, we wanted to be here for Harold,” Lala stated.

In the curtain-raiser match, Harold Rounds played as a tight head prop for the Fijian Drua development team, showcasing his talent and determination on the field. Such events not only highlight individual achievements but also strengthen the community spirit among rugby supporters in Fiji, a country where the sport brings people together against all odds.
