The Boston Basketball Club is thrilled to participate in the Basketball Fiji Cup, which is returning after a three-year hiatus. Coach Jordan Dokonivalu emphasized the significance of this tournament, stating that it is one of the largest national club competitions in the country, eagerly anticipated by the teams and fans alike.
Dokonivalu expressed the club’s excitement, sharing, “We’re excited and we’re looking forward to this competition, everyone’s been waiting for long. Three years has been quite a wait, but everyone is keen to compete.” The team has been diligently preparing for the competition, which will take place from March 13 to 15 at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
This year’s Fiji Cup features a total of 16 teams—eight men’s and eight women’s—with clubs from various associations across the nation competing for the coveted title. It not only serves as a platform for showcasing local talents but also acts as a selection ground for national coaches scouting players for the upcoming 2025 Melanesia Cup in the Solomon Islands.
Historically, the Fiji Cup has played a pivotal role in fostering community support and engagement in basketball, and its revival symbolizes a renewed enthusiasm for the sport. The defending champions in the men’s category are the USP Islanders, while the reigning women’s champions are Dynamic Redz. Other teams to watch include Boston and Totokia for the men’s competition, and Tamahine and Natikula Ballers in the women’s bracket.
Fans are encouraged to attend the event, with an entry fee of just $5, making it an accessible and family-friendly occasion. The excitement surrounding the Basketball Fiji Cup marks a hopeful return of the sport, promising enjoyable experiences for fans and providing a vital showcase for emerging basketball talents in Fiji.
