The Acting Commissioner for the Fiji Correction Service, Auta Moceisuva, recently unveiled plans for the Yellow Ribbon Walk and Symposium, scheduled to take place in Nabouwalu, Bua, on March 27 and 28. This marks the inaugural hosting of the event in Bua, emphasizing the Service’s commitment to actively engage with communities, particularly in response to increasing vulnerabilities in remote areas.
The event will feature a meeting that includes local chiefs, Turaga ni Koro, representatives from women and youth groups, non-governmental organizations, and government officials. This gathering aims to facilitate discussions on social reintegration and the crucial roles played by the Vanua and families in supporting this process.
The Yellow Ribbon Walk is anticipated to draw approximately 3,000 participants, indicating a strong community interest in the initiative. In conjunction with this event, Moceisuva has extended an invitation to media representatives for a tour of the Naboro Prison Complex, offering an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of correctional operations and rehabilitation programs.
This initiative reflects a proactive approach to social issues, reinforcing community ties and fostering rehabilitation efforts within the correctional system. The participation of various stakeholders is aimed at creating a collaborative environment where challenges can be addressed and solutions can be developed to enhance community well-being.
