Schools in the Western Division are to remain closed until further notice due to persistent flooding and hazardous road conditions. Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education, in partnership with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and other relevant authorities, confirmed this decision after consultations with Divisional Education Officers.

In contrast, educational institutions in the Northern, Eastern, and Central Divisions will continue operations as usual. However, parents and guardians are reminded that the ultimate decision regarding sending children to school lies with them, especially for those in flood-prone regions where access routes might still be unsafe.

Authorities urge parents to prevent children from attempting to cross flooded roads, creeks, or rivers and to stay updated with official weather forecasts and advisories. School heads are also encouraged to maintain open communication with their Management Committees and District Education Offices while assessing their facilities and grounds before resuming regular activities.

The Ministry of Education emphasizes that ensuring the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and families is their top priority. The community can expect further updates as the situation develops, underscoring a collective commitment to safety and responsible education amidst natural challenges.
