Following a challenging season in 2024, the NSW Waratahs are looking to turn their fortunes around under the guidance of new coach Dan McKellar. The squad has been rejuvenated with the addition of prominent Wallabies, including Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Andrew Kellaway, Taniela Tupou, Rob Leota, Isaac Kailea, and Darby Lancaster.

Last season, the Waratahs faced difficulties, finishing with the wooden spoon after securing only two victories out of 14 matches. Their struggles were exacerbated by a significant injury crisis in the front row, notably the extended absence of Wallaby Angus Bell.

However, there is a renewed sense of optimism surrounding the Waratahs ahead of the new season as they welcome high-profile signings. Suaalii, who recently made his professional rugby union debut and earned Player of the Match accolades in a historic win against England, stands out as a marquee recruit for the team.

Tupou and Kellaway have been consistent performers for the Wallabies under national coach Joe Schmidt, while both Kailea and Lancaster made appearances in this year’s Tests. Leota, although having not played for the Wallabies since the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, brings additional depth to the squad.

“I’m thrilled to be here at the Tahs, and the adjustment has been seamless,” Leota expressed after joining the club. He also highlighted the support of his teammates and family in Sydney, easing his transition as he embarks on this new chapter in his career.

Despite significant losses, such as Mark Nawaqanitawase moving to the NRL, Dylan Pietsch joining the Western Force, and Lachlan Swinton heading to the Top 14 in France, the Waratahs remain committed to re-establishing themselves as a competitive force in Super Rugby Pacific.

In summary, the Waratahs are poised for a comeback with a promising lineup of talent complemented by enthusiastic leadership, which bodes well for their supporters as they embark on the new season.

This refreshed direction showcases the resilience and spirit of the Waratahs, igniting hope among fans that a brighter performance is just around the corner. With their strengthened squad, there’s a sense that they might just surprise many and reclaim their competitive edge in the upcoming season.
