Staff from the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) in Lautoka and Rakiraki recently participated in the replanting of 960 mangrove seedlings and 100 coastal plants on Malake Island in Ra, an area impacted by pipeline construction.
WAF emphasized that this initiative reflects their commitment to offsetting the environmental effects of their infrastructure projects. The organization stated, “By restoring the areas where pipelines were laid, WAF demonstrates its dedication to giving back to the community.”
The replanting initiative not only targets immediate ecosystem restoration needs but also exemplifies corporate responsibility in sustainable development. With the strong backing of the Ministry of Forestry, the Department of Environment, and other stakeholders, this effort highlights the importance of responsible environmental practices in development, ensuring that progress can coexist with nature.
