Former Fiji Volleyball Referee Director Jerry Cakau has expressed enthusiasm for the significant advancements in volleyball since he last officiated a tournament nearly thirteen years ago. Now a school teacher in Australia, Cakau returned to Fiji as the competitions director for the Rooster Chicken End-of-Year Volleyball Festival, which is currently taking place at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
Cakau observed the players throughout the day and was notably impressed with the improved performance levels. He remarked that the players now exhibit a stronger understanding of the game compared to years past. “Reflecting on the time I officiated a match here in Fiji, it’s clear that the sport has experienced remarkable growth, which is truly gratifying to witness. I saw many impressive elements today, and I eagerly anticipate what tomorrow will bring,” he stated.
He attributed the heightened quality of play to the ongoing development efforts spearheaded by Fiji Volleyball over the years. The tournament’s participation also showcases this growth, with teams traveling from as far as Macuata to compete. This influx from distant regions highlights the increasing popularity and reach of the sport within the country.
The festival promises to be a fitting conclusion to the volleyball season, showcasing the dedication and progress made by athletes across the nation.
