A man in his 30s tragically lost his life in a car accident on Queens Road in Korolevu last night. The victim, who was driving with a work colleague towards Suva, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road. Emergency responders from the police and the National Fire Authority arrived quickly at the scene and transported the victim to Sigatoka Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
A second individual involved in the accident, a man in his 20s, is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. This incident adds to the ongoing concerns surrounding road safety, as the current road death toll stands at four, a significant drop compared to 14 deaths during the same period last year.
Similar recent incidents have highlighted the need for heightened awareness regarding safe driving practices. Just days prior, a 21-year-old man died in an accident in Tavua after losing control of his vehicle while trying to overtake another car. Authorities continue to urge drivers to adhere to speed limits and other traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
As this community grapples with the loss of life on the roads, it serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of safe driving, which can significantly reduce road fatalities and keep families together.
