The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has expressed its deepest condolences to the families affected by a tragic incident involving a government vehicle. This vehicle, assigned to Sakiusa Tubuna, the Assistant Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, was parked outside his residence when the minister’s 17-year-old son allegedly took it to go shopping.
The incident occurred on Bau Road, where the teenager reportedly struck two individuals, resulting in their deaths. The OPM confirmed that police investigations are underway, and they have pledged full cooperation with law enforcement regarding the accident that occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
This incident has raised concerns about road safety, especially regarding young, unlicensed drivers. It echoes recent similar incidents that highlight the urgency for increased awareness about responsible driving, especially among minors. Just hours before this accident, two men tragically lost their lives in another accident on Wailoaloa Road, reinforcing the pressing need for public discussions on road safety and better adherence to driving regulations.
Officials are calling for communities to engage collaboratively in promoting responsible driving habits, especially among youth, aiming for reduced fatalities on the roads. With a focus on education and awareness, there is hope that similar tragedies can be mitigated in the future, leading to safer road use for all.
