India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam is set to host what is anticipated to be Fiji’s largest torch relay in honor of its 100th anniversary this April. The relay, named the “Torch of Unity,” will commence its journey on March 18 at the original temple site in Nadi, the birthplace of the organization founded in 1926.
This grand event will traverse across Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, and Levuka, making stops at various Sangam schools, temples, and community centers before concluding its journey at the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple on March 31. This culmination will mark the beginning of the Centennial Celebration and National Convention, set to take place from April 2 to April 6 at King Charles Park.
TISI Sangam National President Parveen Kumar Bala expressed that the relay represents unity and resilience, aiming to link the organization’s rich history to future generations. Additionally, the centenary celebrations will include a Charity Queens contest, featuring contestants from Sangam-run high schools, with the winner to be announced during the festivities in Nadi.
This event not only celebrates a significant milestone for the India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam but also emphasizes community involvement and cultural heritage, fostering a sense of togetherness among participants and the wider Fijian community.
