They also noted that the ongoing dengue outbreak in the Western Division is putting additional strain on both outpatient and inpatient services at Tavua Hospital and surrounding healthcare facilities. The public has been requested to exercise patience as public health measures to control the mosquito population are implemented.
In response to claims of a medicine shortage made by the Fiji Labour Party, the Ministry clarified that a review would have shown that both medicines and medical supplies have been adequately restocked at the hospital. They expressed concern that negative narratives could undermine public confidence in the healthcare system, urging the community to persist in seeking care at local health facilities.
The government is also advocating for its Free Medicine Program, which provides eligible individuals with access to 139 essential medications at private pharmacies. The Ministry has encouraged public participation in this program to ensure that necessary medications are readily available.
