Next month, boxing enthusiasts can anticipate an exciting influx of international boxers as ZEG Boxing Promotion makes its debut in Suva. The first boxing event of the year was officially launched yesterday, with participating boxers signing contracts for the highly anticipated March 28 showdown.
So far, ten bouts have been confirmed, with two additional matches still in negotiations. The highlight of the event is expected to be the Super Bantamweight title fight, featuring Junior Binnu Singh clashing with India’s Varun Phartyal, who is returning to the ring alongside compatriots Rohit Chauhan and Amandeep Singh.
Adding to the international flavor, New Zealand’s Sonny Morini will participate, having earned the NZPBC Welterweight title last November after defeating Mohammed Ali. Morini is set to face Fiji’s Kaliova Tahikia in what promises to be an intriguing bout.
The card also features a compelling supporting match between India’s Rohit Chauhan and Fiji’s Ratu Rakuro. Last year, Chauhan made headlines when he scored a sixth-round TKO against Ratu Filise, raising expectations for this rematch. Amandeep Singh is scheduled to fight Ratu Kimo, a prison officer, in the heavyweight division, while locals are eager to witness the heavyweight duel between James ‘The Best’ Singh and Savenaca Tui.
The promotion will take place at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, and it promises to deliver an electrifying evening for boxing fans. With international talent on display, this event not only highlights the growth of boxing in the region but also provides a platform for local fighters to shine alongside their overseas counterparts. The ZEG Boxing Promotion is poised to be a significant event in the boxing calendar, heralding a thrilling year ahead for the sport.
