New BBQ E-Boat debuts in Port Denarau with on-board grilling and sunset cruises

A new dining-on-the-water experience has launched in Port Denarau, Fiji, as BBQ E-Boat introduces three-hour cruises that let guests grill fresh barbecue right on board while taking in stunning Fijian sunsets.

Lingling Pan, director of BBQ E-Boat, says the venture is about more than sightseeing. It aims to deliver a true Fijian dining experience—delicious food, relaxation, and meaningful connections set against a breathtaking natural backdrop.

Passengers will cruise through the calm waters of Denarau and enjoy on-board grilling, turning a sightseeing trip into a relaxed, sociable dining occasion. Each three-hour voyage promises a laid-back atmosphere, friendly faces, and memorable sunset moments.

“BBQ E-Boat is built on the idea that exploring Fiji can be relaxed and delicious and sustainable. And it brings the people and food and love together. Port Denarau was the best location. It’s a really good location and the calm water,” Pan notes in describing the concept.

The project is backed by a $500,000 investment, and the operator indicates there is growing demand for the service. As a result, plans may see the fleet expand from the current number of six E-boats and a small team of four staff if business continues to rise.

Context and local outlook

The introduction of BBQ E-Boat sits within a broader wave of marine-tourism development around Port Denarau. The precinct has been attracting new cruise concepts and amenities aimed at both locals and visitors. In recent months, other operators have launched day-cruise experiences from Port Denarau, adding to the area’s appeal as a seaside dining and exploration hub. The Port Denarau Marina itself has been undergoing notable upgrades to accommodate growing yachting and cruise activity, underscoring Fiji’s push to bolster sustainable, experience-rich tourism along the coast.

Why this matters

The new BBQ E-Boat adds another layer to Fiji’s vibrant cruise and dining scene by combining local hospitality with a distinctive on-water dining format. It complements existing offerings that showcase Fiji’s culture and cuisine, while supporting potential job creation and local food storytelling. If successful, the concept could inspire additional on-board dining itineraries and expanded crews, contributing to the broader growth of Fiji’s tourism sector.

Summary

BBQ E-Boat’s Port Denarau venture represents a positive step for on-water dining in Fiji, pairing sustainable food experiences with scenic sunsets and relaxed cruising. As Denarau continues to develop its marine-tourism footprint, similar initiatives and related upgrades could enhance visitor experiences and support local livelihoods.

Positive angle

The project highlights Fiji’s commitment to diverse, high-quality experiences that blend culture, cuisine, and natural beauty, offering both residents and visitors memorable ways to enjoy the islands.
