New Zealand’s High Commission to Fiji has expressed strong support for the Fiji Business Mission, organized by the New Zealand Fiji Business Council (NZFBC), which is aimed at bolstering trade and investment relations between the two countries. This year’s mission is particularly significant as it aligns with the $2 billion trade commitment established between the Prime Ministers of Fiji and New Zealand last year.

In statements made by Alex Shahryar-Davies, New Zealand’s deputy high commissioner to Fiji, the mission highlights the government’s dedication to enhancing business ties. The mission commenced in Suva, the capital, before expanding to other regions of Fiji, focusing on industries such as tourism, agriculture, and business process outsourcing (BPO). Shahryar-Davies emphasized the importance of dialogue and collaboration, stating, “We want to hear from them, what they’re going through, the challenges they’re facing, and how the New Zealand government can support their aspirations.”

The NZFBC’s mission not only seeks to facilitate valuable networking opportunities but also aims to address trade and investment barriers faced by businesses in both nations. This initiative comes at a time when Fiji is being recognized as a vital trade partner for New Zealand, with previous articles noting significant growth in bilateral trade reaching approximately NZD 1.4 billion.

Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, has previously noted the country’s potential in sectors like agri-tech and eco-tourism, and actively encouraged New Zealand companies to invest in improving Fiji’s agricultural infrastructure. This collaborative approach contributes to a positive sentiment regarding future trade relations and opportunities for growth between the two countries.

The recent business mission is expected to culminate in a breakfast forum that will further highlight achievements and address future collaborative goals, reinforcing the optimistic outlook shared by both nations regarding their economic relationship and shared prosperity.
