Sisters in Sport: Drua Women Gear Up for Hefty Clash Against Reds!

The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s rugby team is set to take on the Queensland Reds this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has opted to maintain the same starting lineup that achieved a convincing victory over the NSW Waratahs, while bolstering the team’s bench with four new additions to enhance their depth.

This matchday squad features remarkable sibling partnerships, including Karalaini Naisewa alongside Keleni Marawa and Salaseini paired with Setaita Railumu, reflecting the team’s strong familial bonds and unity. In the starting lineup, Salanieta Nabuli will play as loosehead prop, with captain Vika Matarugu in the tighthead position, and Keleni Marawa fulfilling the role of hooker. The lock combination consists of Mereoni Nakesa and Asinate Serevi, while rookie flankers Alfreda Fisher and Salaseini Railumu aim to continue their impressive trajectory from previous matches.

The backline showcases Kolora Lomani at halfback and Salanieta Kinita serving as flyhalf. The wings will be defended by the agile Alowesi Nakoci and Repeka Tove, while Josivini Naihamu and vice-captain Vitalina Naikore bring notable experience to the midfield. Luisa Tisolo rounds out the lineup at fullback.

On the bench, Rawaqa has added Loraini Senivutu as backup hooker, Ana Korovata as loosehead cover, and Tiana Robanakadavu for tighthead support. Notably, Merevesi Ofakimalino returns to Super Rugby W after a two-year hiatus, and Nunia Daunimoala makes a comeback from injury, both contributing to the bench. Setaita Railumu will step in as halfback cover, supported by Litiana Vueti and Merewairita Neivosa to complete the reserve squad.

The excitement builds with kickoff scheduled for 1:05 PM, as fans anticipate the Drua women’s team’s spirited performance. As they strive to build on their recent accomplishments, this match represents an opportunity to further elevate the profile of women’s rugby in the region, promising a season filled with potential victories and inspiring stories for young athletes. The positive energy surrounding the team is a testament to their dedication and belief in collective success, fostering hope for an exhilarating season ahead.
