Maryann Macedru, a determined 16-year-old student athlete from Saint Joseph Secondary School, is setting her sights on new heights in shot put as she gears up for this year’s Coca-Cola Games. Recently, she displayed remarkable prowess at the Suva Zone Two competition, where she won a gold medal in the intermediate girls’ shot put event with an impressive throw of 12.80 meters.
Her schoolmates, Sinairi Erasito and Nina Mulevoro, also excelled in the competition, securing silver and bronze medals respectively, and showcasing the strength of their school’s team. Despite her recent success, Macedru is driven to improve her performance further and aims to win gold for her school in the upcoming Coca-Cola Games.
Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledged the hurdles faced during her preparation but expressed unwavering confidence in her abilities. “My preparation was challenging, and I could have performed better today, but I’m really going to excel during the Coca-Cola Games,” she shared, indicating her ambition of surpassing her own record.
In addition to competing in shot put, Macedru is also preparing for the discus event, eager to showcase her skills in both areas. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her coach, teachers, and parents for their constant support as she looks forward to the prestigious 2025 Coca-Cola Games.
