The Queensland Reds have officially announced their Super Rugby Pacific squad for the 2025 season, featuring promising Australian Under-20 talents Trevor King and Will McCulloch. The lineup includes 19 players with Test experience, highlighted by 18 Wallabies and former All Blacks prop Jeffery Toomaga-Allen. Twelve of these players have made over 50 appearances for the Reds, including co-captain Tate McDermott, who will commence the season with a remarkable 91 caps.
Returning to the squad are lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and outside back Filipo Daugunu, both Wallabies who will contribute to the team’s depth. New signings like outside back Lachie Anderson, lock Josh Canham, prop Matt Gibbon, and utility back Mason Gordon have also joined the Reds and are already integrating through the Reds International Program.
The Reds have added three newcomers to the squad who will be making their debuts: prop Trevor King, fullback-winger Will McCulloch, and utility back Jude Gibbs from Sydney’s Northern Suburbs club. The importance of the Reds International Program is underscored by the experience gained by teenage center Dre Pakeho, who has played against international teams while preparing for his Super Rugby Pacific debut.
Reds head coach Les Kiss expressed excitement about the evolving squad and emphasized the importance of hard work and preparation. He highlighted the successful alignment between the Reds and their Academy, stating the vital role young players play in contributing to the team’s future success.
McCulloch, who shone in the Australian U20s match against New Zealand, noted the motivation he feels from recent Academy players making strides in their careers, while King has already marked his place in the Australian U20s team. Gibbs expressed anticipation for joining the Reds, reflecting on his experiences that have shaped him for this moment.
The Reds will launch their 2025 campaign against Moana Pasifika on February 21, with an exciting pre-season ahead, including matches against Bristol and Ulster.
This exciting lineup not only denotes a commitment to nurturing young talent but also reflects the Reds’ strategy to blend experience with youth, which bodes well for their journey in the upcoming season. The mix of seasoned players and up-and-coming talent creates a hopeful atmosphere for the team, and fans can look forward to watching a competitive and dynamic Super Rugby Pacific season unfold.
