Wame Ratuva’s aspirations of donning the Fiji national rugby jersey are becoming a reality as he took part in his first training session with the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s extended squad this week. The 30-year-old from Nadroga made headlines recently by captaining the Yaro Chiefs to victory in the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s, showcasing his leadership skills and rugby prowess.

Ratuva’s impressive performance in the tournament earned him the title of Player of the Final, alongside the esteemed Waisale Serevi Medal, reinforcing his reputation in Fiji’s competitive local sevens circuit. His recent success at the Coral Coast, a prestigious provincial tournament, has further bolstered his case for national selection as Fiji works to deepen its talent pool.

Reflecting on his inclusion in the extended squad, Ratuva expressed his lifelong dream of representing Fiji and his determination to honor his family through hard work and commitment. “I’ve been working hard for this opportunity, and I thank the Lord for getting me this far. I will make my family proud,” he stated.

As the national team gears up for the upcoming Vancouver Sevens, set for March 7–8 as part of the World Rugby Sevens Series, Ratuva’s journey highlights the dedication and aspirations of athletes striving to achieve their dreams on the international stage. His inclusion not only adds depth to the squad but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring rugby players across the nation.
