Ratu Nacani Virivirisai, the captain of the TAVEUNI Grassroots under-20 rugby team, is being recognized as a rising star in the sport by his coach, former national sevens player Sireli Bobo. At just 19 years old, Virivirisai, who hails from Daviqele in Kadavu and has familial ties to Yavulo in Sigatoka, is currently the playmaker for the Nadroga under-20 team and has already made a name for himself in provincial rugby.
Bobo has been impressed with Virivirisai’s skills, particularly highlighting his exceptional abilities on the field. “Virivirisai is a gifted playmaker. We are fortunate that he is only 19 years old and eligible to compete in the Coral Coast Sevens,” Bobo remarked. He added that Virivirisai, along with two other standout players from the squad, exhibits potential that could lead to national team selections in the future, given adequate training and mentorship.
As the Coral Coast Sevens approaches, Virivirisai is optimistic about his team’s readiness, despite having a brief training camp. “We have trained very hard over the past two weeks. There are still a few things to perfect before the competition, but we are confident in what we have achieved so far and what we can accomplish,” he stated.
Virivirisai and his young teammates are filled with anticipation and excitement as they prepare for their upcoming match, eager to showcase their talent and determination on the rugby field. This enthusiasm serves as a promising reminder of the potential within Fiji’s youth rugby, suggesting that the future of the sport looks bright.
