Newcomer Takes Athletics by Storm at Lelean Memorial School!

Samuela Kunadei, a Year 13 student from Lelean Memorial School, has made a remarkable entry into the world of athletics by competing in the inter-house athletics competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This was Kunadei’s first experience in athletics, yet he showcased exceptional talent, emerging victorious in both the senior grade 100m and 200m heats.

Determined to make the most of his final year in high school, Kunadei shared, “I just wanted to compete because this is my last year in school, and this is my first time.” Although he found the atmosphere a bit daunting due to the crowd, he relished the experience and expressed regret for not joining athletics earlier.

Looking ahead, Kunadei is poised to represent his school in the upcoming Triple N Zone competition scheduled for April 1st and 2nd at the same venue, showing his readiness and enthusiasm for further challenges. This event is part of a broader effort by Lelean Memorial School, which plans to send 180 students to this significant athletics competition. The recent inter-house competition acted as a vital preparatory phase for the athletes, helping them get ready for the competitions ahead.

Assistant Principal Ulaiyasi Vakatawakoula emphasized the significance of inter-house events, stating their role in preparing students for future athletic contests. Many athletes, including Kunadei, have been training diligently, with further selections anticipated following these inter-house competitions.
