Mereseini Likucokocoko, a 32-year-old mother, made headlines as she welcomed the first baby of 2025 at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Maternity Unit. Her son was born around 4:04 AM yesterday morning, marking a most joyous occasion for Ms. Likucokocoko, who expressed her gratitude despite the challenges she faced leading up to the birth.

The mother of two shared that she experienced a seizure on the eve of giving birth, making the arrival of her son particularly significant. Hailing from Serea, Naitasiri, she described the unexpected birth as a lovely start to the New Year. “My baby came early, as today wasn’t the expected due date – he was supposed to be born later in the month,” she noted, adding that despite not having chosen a name yet, her heart is full of joy.

The newborn will join Ms. Likucokocoko’s eight-year-old child, further enriching her family life. She expressed enthusiasm about the new year and the blessing of bringing her second child into the world. “I am so happy to celebrate another year of life, and today is especially meaningful as I gave birth to my second child on the very first day of the year,” she remarked.

Looking forward, Ms. Likucokocoko hopes for a year filled with joy and good health for her newborn. She emphasized the importance of maternal health, stating, “A healthy mom means a healthy baby,” and encouraged others to cherish the fleeting moments of childhood.

This inspiring story not only marks the beginning of a new life but also resonates with hope and the beauty of family and health in the New Year. It reflects the universal bond of motherhood and the joy of welcoming new beginnings.
