The Fiji Football Association is set to host the Southern Secondary Schools Futsal Championship this weekend, with over 40 teams entering the competition. Tournament coordinator Jainut Dean has announced that the pools have been finalized and highlighted the inclusion of several new schools in this year’s event.

Competing teams will represent both Under-19 and Under-17 grades across boys’ and girls’ divisions. Among the newcomers making their debut are International School Suva, Vunimono High School, Nabua Secondary School, and Suva Grammar School. Dean expressed enthusiasm about the influx of new participants, stating, “We have a few new schools joining this year so this is a really good sign for us. We know it’s going to be an interesting competition because of the way we did our draws, where we evenly shared out the schools based on their performance.”

The tournament will kick off with round one matches on Saturday at the Fiji FA Futsal Court in Vatuwaqa, Suva. In the Under-19 girls’ division, five teams will compete in a round-robin format due to an uneven number of participants, consisting of Vunimono High School, Nakasi High School, Baulevu High School, Nasinu Secondary School, and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School.

For the Under-19 boys’ division, ten teams will be divided into two pools. Pool A consists of Vunimono High, International School Suva, Baulevu High, Suva Grammar School, and DAV College, while Pool B features Suva Muslim College, Dilkusha Methodist High School, Nakasi High, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School, and Sila Central High School.

The Under-17 girls’ grade will include eight schools divided into two pools. Pool A features Suva Muslim College, International School Suva, DAV College, and Nakasi High School, while Pool B includes Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School, Vunimono High School, Nabua Secondary School, and Nasinu Secondary School.

In the Under-17 boys’ category, 12 teams will also compete in three pools. Pool A consists of Nakasi High, Nabua Secondary, DAV, and Sila Central High School, while Pool B comprises Baulevu High, Vunimono High, Suva Muslim College, and Gospel High School. Pool C includes Rishikul Sanatan College, Nasinu Muslim College, International School Suva, and Jai Narayan College.

This year’s tournament promises to be an exciting showcase of young talent, fostering competitive spirit and sportsmanship among students.
