Labasa Football's New Era: A Coach's Dream Unfolds

New Era at Labasa Football: Alvin Chand Takes the Helm as Head Coach

Alvin Chand has been named the new head coach of Labasa Football, taking over from the highly successful Ravneel Pratap. Chand’s association with Labasa football spans nearly nine years, and he has notably spent seven years coaching youth teams. He first joined the senior squad in preparation for January’s Champion vs Champion series.

Chand expressed his appreciation to the club officials and president for entrusting him with this role, stating, “It’s the dream of all the youth coaches in Fiji to one day lead the senior team. I hope this season is successful for our team and our fans.” Acknowledging Pratap’s significant achievements—where he led the team to victory in multiple tournaments including the CVC, BOG, and IDC—Chand noted that he has “big shoes to fill.”

Determined to build upon the triumphs of his predecessor, Chand has called for the support of fans as he readies the team for their upcoming match against Lautoka this Sunday at 3 PM, which will be aired live on Radio Fiji Two. He recognizes the inherent challenges and pressure that come with the position but remains focused on strengthening the team’s resilience and tactical prowess throughout the demanding season ahead.

The recent establishment of the Fiji FA Elite Academy, aimed at cultivating young talent, also signals a positive direction for the future of Labasa Football. This initiative enhances hopes for the development of new athletes in the region and complements the coaching changes within the club.

Overall, with Chand’s leadership, Labasa Football aims to harmonize tradition and innovation, promising an exciting and competitive season. There is a sense of optimism among the sports community as Labasa seeks to uphold its legacy while nurturing new talent.
