The Nasinu Town Council is taking significant steps to enhance public safety and promote environmental cleanliness by launching a major initiative. The council has announced that it will install 40 new surveillance cameras at various litter hotspots throughout the municipality, aiming to deter illegal dumping and hold offenders accountable. This strategic placement comes as part of the council’s ongoing commitment to enforce compliance with Nasinu’s environmental bylaws.

In addition to the surveillance cameras, the council plans to set up 135 solar-powered lights in alleys and other dark areas to improve visibility and community safety. These installations are expected to become operational by mid-February 2025. Felix Magnus, the Special Administrator Chair, emphasized that the initiative aims to protect the environment and maintain a clean community for the benefit of all residents.

This effort aligns with previous initiatives, such as the installation of solar lights in informal settlements to increase safety. In 2024, the council also took over waste management services, underscoring its dedication to tackling local littering issues and enhancing service delivery. Recent figures revealed that over 90% of unauthorized waste disposal incidents stem from improper practices, emphasizing the need for increased public awareness and compliance.

Magnus further urged residents to participate actively by reporting illegal dumping and taking pride in their surroundings. He expressed hope that these measures would not only reduce crime but also foster a sense of community responsibility for maintaining cleanliness.

The community is encouraged to view this initiative positively: not only does it enhance safety, but it also demonstrates a united effort towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable Nasinu, ultimately enriching the quality of life for its residents.
