Beth Sargent, president of the Suva Marathon, expressed her amazement at the turnout of over 500 runners for the Namosi Challenge, which took place on Saturday under difficult weather conditions. The event included a half marathon (21km), an individual marathon (10km), and a team marathon, where groups of four each completed a 10km leg to make up a full marathon.
This marked Sargent’s third participation in the Namosi Challenge, and she was eager to take part in this scenic event. As a member of the Suva Marathon club and a key organizer of the challenge, she was delighted to witness the enthusiasm and determination of the participants.
“This is the third time I have done the Namosi Challenge, and being part of the Suva Marathon club, I was involved in organizing this event,” Sargent stated. “It was an incredible race; despite the rain making it soggy, more than 500 runners came out to take part in the competition.”
The rainy conditions did not deter the runners, who displayed resilience and determination throughout the race. Sargent highlighted the stunning views and the support from local communities along the route, which added to the event’s charm.
“The scenery here is beautiful; the hills can be challenging, but the views and the community support motivate you to make it up those hills,” she added.
Sargent was especially impressed by the participants’ perseverance and spirit as they faced the adverse weather but continued to push through. She encouraged others to join future events, emphasizing the beauty of the course and the rewarding feeling that comes from completing such a demanding race.
