Nadi’s Sunset Strip is set to undergo a significant transformation with plans for a billion-dollar tourism development backed by Chinese investors. Brent Hill, the chief executive officer of Tourism Fiji, described the project as “outstanding.” The proposed Nadi Town Resort is anticipated to be particularly suitable for the Wailoaloa area due to its proximity to the airport and access to waterfront activities for visitors heading to nearby islands.

Hill commended SGV Pacific Properties Group for their initiative and emphasized the rationale behind selecting a location with existing infrastructure. He stated, “It makes total sense to put this in an area where there already is a lot of infrastructure,” highlighting the value of development in built-up regions to maintain Fiji’s image and sustainability.

The resort is proposed to be constructed in phases, ultimately offering over 900 rooms across a sprawling 49 acres. Hill noted the urgent need for increased housing and accommodation in Nadi, especially in light of rising living costs. He empathized with the community, sharing, “I know this because I pay some outrageous rent… We need more residential accommodation as well so that more people can afford to live.”

The development will also incorporate retail spaces, addressing a current shortfall in shopping options for residents and tourists alike. The influx of Chinese tourists, who are keen on shopping during their visits, is another important aspect of the project’s appeal. Hill added that interest in Fiji from China is rapidly growing, alongside traditional markets like Australia and New Zealand.

This proposed development promises to enhance the tourism landscape of Fiji while simultaneously addressing local housing needs and commercial opportunities, potentially heralding a new era of growth and sustainability for the region.

In summary, the billion-dollar resort project on Nadi’s Sunset Strip represents a significant opportunity for economic development and enhanced tourism in Fiji, while also aiming to meet local housing demands.
