Senior citizens in Nadi are set to experience an enhancement in their mental and physical health with the introduction of a new recreational park specifically designed for the elderly. This initiative is spearheaded by Vineel Nand, a passionate advocate focused on addressing the growing issue of elder neglect in Fiji.

The envisioned park is geared towards providing various amenities including gaming activities, gentle exercise equipment, ample seating, and a friendly atmosphere that encourages relaxation and social interaction. Nand emphasized the significance of this project, noting that many elderly individuals in Fiji endure difficult situations, often facing emotional and physical stress from family members. This isolation can tarnish their twilight years, as they struggle with the challenges of aging without adequate support.

Moreover, Nand pointed out that many senior citizens are reluctant to voice the mistreatment they endure from loved ones, often out of a sense of loyalty and love for their family. He believes elders deserve to relish their golden years with respect and care.

When asked about the financial aspects and design of the park, Nand mentioned that the planning is still in its infancy, with specific costs and layout yet to be determined. He acknowledged the lack of expertise among his team in park construction and is therefore seeking guidance from experts in Australia and New Zealand to ensure a successful development.

Nand expressed optimism that construction will commence this year. Currently, the project team is engaged in discussions with the Nadi Town Council to secure land for the park and is actively searching for sponsors to help fund the initiative. Additionally, Nand revealed that there are intentions to replicate similar projects in other towns and cities throughout the country, paving the way for a more supportive environment for the elderly across Fiji.

This project represents a hopeful step forward in promoting wellbeing among senior citizens and fostering community connections.
