Moana Pasifika has made a significant move by releasing 15 players, a decision announced via their social media channels. This shake-up comes as the franchise evaluates its roster and prepares for the upcoming season. Notably, star winger Kyren Taumoefolau and former captain Sione Havili-Talitui are among the players departing, with Taumoefolau rumored to be heading to the Chiefs.

The list of released players includes Fine Inisi, Lotu Inisi, Neria Fomai, Danny Toala, Michael Curry, Pepesana Patafilo, Alamanda Motuga, Sama Malolo, Aisea Halo, Tomasi Maka, Connor Seve, Irie Papuni, and Pone Fa’amausili. The organization expressed a heartfelt farewell, stating, “Goodbyes are never easy, but they remind us just how meaningful the journey has been. Thank you, brothers, for everything.”

This change comes on the heels of Moana Pasifika’s most competitive season to date in 2024, where they secured victories against every Kiwi franchise except the Chiefs and narrowly missed out on a playoff position after finishing seventh. Despite a strong start, their final two matches raised concerns as they allowed 149 points, indicating the need for a fresh approach as the franchise moves forward.

The team is now looking ahead with hope, seeking to rebuild and strengthen its roster. Much like other franchises, such as the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, which recently said goodbye to key players pursuing opportunities abroad, Moana Pasifika sees this as a chance to embrace new talent and create a more cohesive unit for future challenges. As they move past this transitional phase, the focus remains on fostering a vibrant rugby culture and maintaining strong community ties, which will be pivotal for their continued growth and representation in the sport.
