Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Inosi Kuridrani, conducted a vital assessment of flood control initiatives by visiting key drainage sites in Ba this week. This visit underscores the Ministry’s dedication to enhancing the resilience of waterways within the community.

During his inspection, Kuridrani lauded the impressive 10-kilometer drainage system at Natalacake, noting it as a prime example of quality engineering that embodies durability and sustainability. He highlighted that such infrastructure is crucial not only for farmers but also for local residents, particularly in the face of heavy rainfall.

The Minister stressed the importance of continuous monitoring and maintenance of drainage systems to ensure they remain effective. He acknowledged the significant role played by Waterways Field Officers in keeping drainage channels, bridges, and floodgates unobstructed, pointing out that proactive oversight is essential for safeguarding communities against flooding.

Additionally, Kuridrani encouraged community members to promptly report any issues and collaborate with the Ministry to bolster resilience against future weather events. “Drainage systems are vital to protecting our people, our farms, and our livelihoods,” he emphasized.

This commitment to improving and maintaining flood control infrastructure not only fosters safety but also strengthens the overall resilience of the community in the face of climate challenges.
