Santiago Gomez Cora, the ambassador for the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast, will not be participating in the upcoming three-day tournament due to medical advice following an emergency surgery. The head coach of the Argentina sevens team is required to refrain from traveling for at least one month as part of his recovery process.

“We send our best wishes to Santiago for a smooth recovery and eagerly anticipate seeing him in Fiji in 2026,” said a representative in a statement shared on the official Coral Coast 7s Facebook page.

In the meantime, the Fiji 7s team will lead Pool A alongside New Zealand sevens team 2, with Tuva and Brothers also competing in the same group. Pool B features New Zealand Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West, while Pool C includes BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise. Additionally, Pool D comprises the Aussie Select 7s and McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s as the two international teams, with Devo Babas and Taikita Brothers 7s completing the lineup.

As the tournament approaches, it serves as an opportunity for teams to showcase their talents and for fans to support their favorites. Despite Santiago’s absence, the event promises to deliver thrilling rugby action.

This situation is a reminder of the importance of health first, and we wish Santiago a speedy recovery. The anticipation for the tournament remains high, and it showcases the vibrant rugby culture in Fiji.
