Dr. Raijeli Taga has been appointed as the new Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, effective February 3, 2025. This reshuffle, confirmed by the Public Service Commission (PSC) in collaboration with the Prime Minister, is part of a broader strategy to enhance leadership capabilities across key ministries in Fiji’s government.

Dr. Taga transitions from her previous role as Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, a position she has held until this change. Succeeding her at the Prime Minister’s office is Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who has been leading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his additional responsibilities, Dr. Korovavala will also act as the Permanent Secretary for Immigration, directly reporting to the Minister of Immigration.

Furthermore, in another significant development, Manasa Lesuma, currently serving as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has taken on additional duties as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing, a role effective from January 14, 2025.

This reshuffle underscores the government’s commitment, as emphasized by PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada, to optimize leadership and improve governance across essential government sectors. It reflects a strategic initiative focused on placing skilled professionals in pivotal roles, fostering local talent, and enhancing public service delivery.

The recent transitions not only aim to balance workloads but also signal a hopeful trajectory for Fiji’s governance framework. By nurturing local expertise within its leadership ranks, the government demonstrates a proactive approach to meeting the evolving needs of its citizens and addressing future challenges effectively. This optimistic restructuring sets a promising tone for the country’s public administration, paving the way for greater innovation and efficiency in government operations.
