Lautoka Gears Up for Epic Basketball Championship Showdown!

Lautoka has been chosen to host the 2024 Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, an announcement made during the launch at the Lautoka City Council Chambers. Prashant Prasad, the Vodafone Senior Business Relationship Manager for the Western & Northern Region, expressed pride in sponsoring the Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Nationals for the second year in a row.

During the launch, Prasad stated, “As we kick off this tournament, we are eagerly looking forward to the exciting games that await. The path to victory will be challenging, but it is by overcoming these challenges that true champions emerge. All of you are champions! We are thrilled to see the determination, skill, and sportsmanship each team will showcase on the court in the west. With over 50 teams participating, this promises to be a spectacular event! We also welcome the new schools that are joining us this year.”

He encouraged the athletes, saying, “Your hard work and dedication have led you to this moment. Play with passion, respect, and integrity.”

Lautoka City Council CEO Mohammed Anees Khan also expressed enthusiasm about hosting the three-day event, noting, “We look forward to holding the tournament for the second consecutive year in Lautoka.”

The upcoming tournament will feature 70 schools competing over three days, with more than 800 students participating. Lautoka Muslim College will be debuting their Under 19 boys’ team, while Ratu Kadavulevu School, Sacred Heart College, and Votualevu College will return to the competition.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 29 to 31.
