KPMG Fiji has donated AU$5,000 (about FJ$7,900) to two local shelters to help meet immediate needs of vulnerable families and individuals, the firm said on Wednesday. The funds were split between the Fiji Family Care Centre – The Salvation Army Lautoka Family Care Centre and Homes of Hope Fiji, with portions earmarked for groceries, essential supplies and improvements to residents’ living environments.

The donation to The Salvation Army Lautoka Family Care Centre was formally presented in March by KPMG Fiji managing partner Sharvek Naidu and Naomi Mitchell, head of Mid-Market & Private at KPMG Australia. “The funds were used to address immediate needs across multiple centres,” Naidu said in a statement, adding the contribution forms part of KPMG’s broader commitment to deliver timely and meaningful social impact where it is needed most.

At the Lautoka centre the cash will be used to purchase groceries to meet pressing nutritional needs, while a spokesperson for The Salvation Army confirmed a portion of the donation has been set aside specifically for the Kauwai Boys in Raiwai, Suva, to provide essential supplies. The Kauwai Boys are among a number of smaller residential programmes and outreach efforts run by The Salvation Army that rely on community donations to cover day-to-day costs.

Homes of Hope Fiji said its portion of the donation was directed both to immediate nutritional support and to modest enhancements of the living environment for residents. “This dual focus reflects our commitment to holistic care addressing both physical sustenance and emotional well being,” a Homes of Hope spokesperson said, describing the funds as targeted at short-term food security and small-scale upgrades that improve daily life for those in their care.

The contribution from KPMG arrives amid ongoing community relief efforts across the Western Division, where government and aid groups earlier this month delivered supplies to evacuation centres in Ba and Lautoka following flood events. While the KPMG donation is independent of official disaster responses, organisers said such private-sector support helps fill gaps in immediate needs for families sheltering or rebuilding after emergencies.

KPMG Fiji has in recent years expanded its presence and workforce in the country, and its managing partner framed the donation as an example of corporate responsibility tied to that growth. Naomi Mitchell’s participation in the Lautoka presentation highlighted cooperation between the firm’s Fiji and Australian offices in directing regional philanthropic efforts.

The firm did not disclose the exact split of the AU$5,000 between the two organisations beyond the earmarks reported by the shelters. Both recipient groups welcomed the support, saying it would be put to prompt use to alleviate short-term needs and improve care for residents.
