A successful four-day inclusive sports program concluded this week at Labasa Special School, aimed at preparing students for the upcoming North Cosie Games. The program, led by ASDO Sanaila, introduced eight inclusive sports, including Sitting Volleyball, Futsal, Wheelchair Race, and others, designed to cater to varying abilities and enhance participation.

The engaging activities stemmed from an Inclusive Workshop held in Suva earlier this year, showing a clear commitment to fostering inclusivity in sports education. The response from the 75 participating students was overwhelmingly positive, showcasing not only enthusiasm but also the importance of learning through play. The staff at the school praised the effectiveness of these games in nurturing a supportive and active learning environment.

Excitingly, all eight games introduced in this program are set to be featured in the North Cosie Games taking place in Savusavu next Thursday. This event will provide an excellent platform for students to demonstrate the skills they have honed during this initiative’s training sessions.

Building on previous successful inclusive sports events, such as the Central Eastern Council of Special and Inclusive Educators Games, which highlights the importance of expanding sporting opportunities for children with disabilities, this program reinforces a broader movement towards inclusivity in sports. The resultant positive atmosphere encourages students to engage actively, creating not only a pathway for individual achievements but also a chance for collective celebration of diversity and talent.

Overall, the program’s structure, support, and excitement hint at a promising future for inclusive sports in Fiji, embodying hope and potential for all participants as they continue to break barriers in the world of athletics.
