The Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways, and Sugar Industry is intensifying its commitment to data-driven decision-making by empowering frontline officers with essential digital mapping and data collection competencies. This initiative aims to enhance farm planning and extend market access for farmers.

Last year, officers from the Land Resources Planning Division conducted targeted training sessions across Ba Province, which included areas such as Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, and Nadi. The focus of these sessions was on utilizing Survey123 and ArcGIS applications for efficient field data collection and spatial analysis.

The impact of this training was evident when officers conducted a comprehensive survey of pineapples, which directly facilitated the successful export of the fruit to the New Zealand market. This serves as a testament to the effectiveness of enhanced data collection and planning processes.

Recently, the Ministry continued its efforts by completing Basic GIS and Survey123 training for staff in Tailevu Province. This program equips officers with vital digital tools to assess crop production more effectively, monitor farm operations, and provide farmers with accurate and timely information.

The Ministry reaffirms its dedication to leveraging technology and building staff capacity to ensure that farmers are well-supported and ready to access both domestic and international markets. This proactive approach not only enhances agricultural productivity but also fosters greater market opportunities for farmers, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future.
