Cooperatives throughout Tikina Vanuaso in Gau are enhancing their operations and building sustainable business practices following a three-day Cooperative Management Training held in Vanuaso Village. This initiative united members from both newly proposed groups and established cooperatives, providing them with essential skills in governance, leadership, record-keeping, and accountability—fundamental elements for effective cooperative management.
The newly established Miramira ni Savuralele Cooperative from Lekanai Village expressed that the training sessions significantly clarified the roles and responsibilities of its members. They emphasized the critical need for comprehensive bylaws and the importance of holding regular meetings to maintain organizational effectiveness.
The establishment of three new cooperatives in Tikina Vanuaso demonstrates a growing confidence in community-driven enterprises and a commitment to local economic development. Among the participants, the Vanuaso Women’s Cooperative reported that the training has ignited ambitions for larger endeavors. Currently managing a small retail shop, they are actively seeking to diversify into wholesale trading. Members believe that with reliable boat services to Gau, their goals for expansion are within reach.
