The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced a reduction in the prices of various fuel and LPG products starting from May 1, 2025. This adjustment comes after the FCCC’s regulated price review, which is based on fuel and LPG imports from March 2025, reflecting a one-month lag period in pricing changes.
The revised prices are as follows:
– Motor Spirit: Decrease of 8 cents per litre
– Premix: Decrease of 7 cents per litre
– Kerosene: Decrease of 6 cents per litre
– Diesel: Decrease of 7 cents per litre
– LPG: 4.5kg gas cylinder will drop by 30 cents, and a 12kg cylinder will see a reduction of 79 cents. Additionally, the price of autogas will be reduced by 5 cents.
This decline in prices is seen as a positive development for consumers, as it could alleviate some financial burdens and enable them to allocate their budgets more efficiently. It also reflects the ongoing adjustments in fuel pricing related to international market conditions.
Previous adjustments documented by the FCCC show that fluctuations in global crude oil prices and currency exchange rates have a significant impact on local fuel prices. For instance, earlier this year, prices for July decreased due to a combination of lower crude oil prices and a weaker US dollar against the Fijian dollar. This trend indicates an ongoing effort by the FCCC to ensure fair pricing for consumers while navigating the complexities of international fuel markets.
The FCCC remains vigilant in monitoring compliance with these prices and encourages consumers to report any unfair practices they may encounter.
