Charan Jeath Singh, Fiji’s Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry, engaged with the Fijian community in London today to discuss the government’s vision for fostering equitable development across all communities and strengthening ties between Fiji and its diaspora.

During the meeting, Singh provided updates on his ministerial responsibilities and detailed future plans for the sugar industry, which is a critical sector for Fiji’s economy. He expressed gratitude to Fijians living abroad, highlighting their significant contributions to the country’s development. In 2022, remittances from the diaspora reached an impressive $1 billion, providing essential support for numerous families in Fiji and bolstering the economy.

Singh emphasized that this increase in remittances demonstrates the hard work and dedication of the Fijian community overseas. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration among the diaspora to create opportunities that align with Fiji’s objectives for national progress.

Furthermore, Singh touched upon the Coalition Government’s commitment to reinstating the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, aimed at promoting inclusivity and equality to build a socially cohesive society among Fiji’s diverse ethnic groups. He encouraged Fijians in the United Kingdom to remain engaged with the Fijian Government and share their experiences, as their input is crucial for shaping policies that address the needs of all citizens and contribute to a prosperous future for Fiji.

This message of unity and appreciation for the contributions of the diaspora serves as a hopeful reminder of the potential for collective growth and the importance of inclusive governance. The ongoing dialogue between the Fijian government and its citizens abroad exemplifies the country’s commitment to fostering development that benefits everyone.
