Fiji’s Yeshnil Karan Shatters 5,000m Record Again!

Fijian distance runner Yeshnil Karan has once again made headlines by breaking the national 5,000m record at the renowned Box Hill Burn event in Melbourne. Karan clocked an impressive time of 14 minutes 22.70 seconds, which is a remarkable improvement of seven seconds over his previous record of 14 minutes 29.50 seconds, achieved at the 2024 Australian National Championships in Adelaide.

This accomplishment signifies the third time Karan has successfully lowered this long-standing Fiji record of 14 minutes 46.40 seconds, which had persisted for three decades. Competing against a highly competitive field, he finished 12th in the race won by double Australian Cross Country Champion Seth O’Donnell.

Karan has previously displayed his skills in other significant events, including setting a national record in the Gold Coast Half Marathon with a time of 67 minutes and 14 seconds. He has consistently expressed gratitude towards his supporters, emphasizing how their encouragement motivates him during races. This latest achievement reinforces Karan’s status as one of Fiji’s premier long-distance runners and offers hope for the future of athletics in Fiji.

Karan’s relentless pursuit of excellence continues to set a positive example for aspiring athletes in Fiji, showing that dedication and hard work can lead to remarkable successes on both national and international stages.
