A new initiative is set to enhance public safety in Fiji as Telecom Fiji partners with the Fiji Police Force to install more CCTV cameras along the Suva-Nausori corridor. This project falls under the Safe City Project, which aims to bolster community safety through advanced technology.

Telecom Fiji will provide high-speed fiber connectivity along with the necessary CCTV infrastructure, with all video feeds being monitored at the Fiji Police Command Centre located at the Central Police Station in Suva. Charles Goundar, the CEO of Telecom Fiji, emphasized that this initiative is not merely a technological upgrade, but a significant step towards creating safer communities for all Fijians. He stated, “We are proud to partner with the Fiji Police Force in delivering a solution that not only improves public safety but also lays the groundwork for smarter cities in the future.”

The Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, also expressed that this development aligns with modern policing strategies focused on maximizing technology’s potential for better law enforcement. He highlighted that real-time monitoring and increased coverage will enable the police to respond more effectively to incidents and deter criminal activity, ultimately fostering a safer environment.

This initiative complements ongoing efforts by the Fiji Police Force to utilize advanced surveillance technologies, such as drones and extensive CCTV networks, as indicated in previously reported plans. The integration of predictive policing and data analytics in the police’s operational strategies showcases a commitment to leveraging innovation for enhanced public security.

Overall, the partnership between Telecom Fiji and the Fiji Police marks a proactive approach to community safety that holds the promise of a more secure future for all residents. This project symbolizes hope for the continued development of smart cities in Fiji, highlighting the transformative power of technology in improving public safety and quality of life.
