Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has raised concerns regarding the poor condition of roads in Fiji, accusing Transport Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau of deflecting legitimate questions with political rhetoric. Seruiratu emphasized the need for responsible governance that engages in constructive dialogue on critical national issues. He criticized Tuisawau’s comments suggesting that without former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Opposition members have little hope of regaining seats in Parliament.

Tuisawau countered by stating that Seruiratu’s remarks insult hardworking staff involved in public services, including road workers. He argued that the Opposition Leader is in a weak position, with only two years remaining in his term and members of his party abandoning him.

Seruiratu reiterated the importance of the road infrastructure for every Fijian, stressing that the deteriorating roads impact daily commuters, businesses, emergency services, and the wider economy. He called for immediate attention to ensure the repair and maintenance of the nation’s road network, criticizing the Minister for prioritizing political issues over tangible results.

Echoing similar sentiments previously expressed by other opposition figures like Ketan Lal, Seruiratu highlighted that effective governance must focus on accountability and active problem-solving. With the potential for constructive discussions amid the political tensions, there lies hope for reforms that could significantly improve infrastructure management in Fiji. Engaging with these crucial topics could lead to the enhancement of public safety and governance, ultimately benefiting the Fijian populace.

In summary, while political exchanges may appear contentious, they open avenues for meaningful dialogue that could result in necessary legislative changes, uplifting the standard of living for Fijians.
