The Oceania Institute of Technology (OIT) has announced the appointment of Praneel Chand as its inaugural Director, set to take effect on January 5, 2026. This appointment is significant for OIT, which is a new private post-secondary institution located at Challenge Plaza in Namaka, Nadi. The institute has received full recognition from the Higher Education Commission of Fiji, marking a crucial step in its development.

Chand brings over 22 years of experience in the education field, most recently serving at Fiji National University (FNU) as the Head of Training for Information Technology. His leadership capabilities were highlighted during his tenure as Acting Director of the National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC), where he provided strategic oversight for four months.

Renowned for his impactful contributions to technology education and workforce development, Chand played a pivotal role in launching the National Conference on Information Technology in 2019. This conference has evolved into a key annual event hosted by FNU’s NTPC, fostering valuable collaborations between academia and industry sectors.

Academically, Chand is well-qualified, holding a Master of Business Administration from the University of the People, a Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of the Sunshine Coast, and a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science and Technology from the University of the South Pacific. Additionally, he has an Advanced Diploma in IT Project Management from TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from FIT College.

With forceful leadership and a strong educational background, Chand is expected to guide OIT to fulfill its mission and vision effectively, positioning the institute as a prominent player in Fiji’s higher education landscape.
