Fiji’s Multi-Ethnic Grant Revives Community Spirit Across 179 Regions

The revitalized Multi-Ethnic Grant has positively impacted 179 communities across Fiji. Announced by the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh, this initiative successfully marks the conclusion of the grant disbursement for the 2024-2025 financial year. A total of 36 communities in the Central Division received $278,072, while an additional community in the Western Division and three on Rabi Island received grants totaling $21,161.99.

Minister Singh celebrated the significance of the grant program, which had been dormant for 14 years prior to its revival. This reinstatement not only brings much-needed funding but also serves as a means to empower diverse community-based organizations. Singh emphasized that these grants promote social cohesion through cultural celebrations and community activities, fostering a greater sense of unity among Fiji’s multi-ethnic population.

Singh mentioned that applicants who were unable to secure funding this year are encouraged to reapply in the next financial cycle, maintaining continuous support for community initiatives. Besides the 40 communities that recently received funding, the Ministry has allocated similar grants to 55 communities in the Western Division and assisted six projects in Ovalau, along with a total of 78 communities in the Northern Division.

The government’s commitment to uplifting diverse communities reflects an ongoing effort to foster inclusivity and support. As articulated in previous initiatives, such as earlier grants totaling over $532,000 for projects across different divisions, this program aims to enhance community infrastructure and encourage the growth of cultural identities. A hopeful outlook emerges from these efforts, as communities are given the necessary tools to thrive and collaboratively build a brighter future together.
