Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has strongly criticized Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, for failing to engage in a constructive dialogue regarding Fiji’s pressing infrastructure issues, particularly the state of the nation’s roads. In a recent statement to FijiLive, Seruiratu expressed disappointment over Tuisawau’s choice to prioritize political rhetoric rather than addressing substantive concerns raised by the opposition.

With a number of Independent MPs joining the governing coalition, calls for Seruiratu’s resignation have grown. However, he underlined the seriousness of the concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of Fiji’s roads, stating that these issues directly affect every Fijian’s daily life—from commuters to emergency services and the overall economy.

“The state of our roads impacts everyone,” Seruiratu lamented. “The public demands solutions, not just political posturing. True leadership requires accountability, decisiveness, and prompt action from those in authority.”

He emphasized that the Minister’s primary responsibility should be to the people of Fiji, urging for immediate and tangible results instead of political maneuvering. According to Seruiratu, addressing the urgent need for road repairs and maintenance must be a top priority for Tuisawau. He pointed out that diverting concerns will not resolve the pressing issues; instead, a well-defined strategy, improved oversight, and efficient implementation are essential.

Seruiratu reassured the public that the Opposition remains committed to holding the government accountable and advocating for realistic solutions that enhance the daily lives of citizens. He further called for urgency, transparency, and competent leadership in dealing with Fiji’s infrastructure challenges.

This political discourse highlights significant tensions between the government and the opposition but also underscores a vital opportunity. Engaging in dialogue about these critical issues could pave the way for meaningful reforms in infrastructure management, enhancing public safety, and ensuring the welfare of Fijian citizens.

In summary, while the current political environment may appear contentious, it presents an opportunity for collaboration aimed at improving the conditions of public infrastructure. With proactive governance and an emphasis on accountability, there is hope for a brighter future for all Fijians, reinforcing the principle that effective leadership prioritizes the needs of the people above political distractions.
