Jerome Narayan, Sydney-based national goalkeeper, has been excluded from the Fiji squad for the forthcoming MSG Presidents Cup in Honiara, Solomon Islands. In his absence, Joela Biuvanua from Nadi has been selected as his replacement. The squad also includes veteran goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau and Akuila Mateisuva among the 23 members.
Narayan had previously participated in all of Fiji’s World Cup qualifier group matches held in Suva and Port Moresby, showcasing his skills on a global stage. Other notable overseas players, such as Captain Roy Krishna, Scott Wara, and Leroy Jennings, are also part of the team.
Significantly, the 2024 Footballer of the Year, Ratu Tevita Waranaivalu, has not been included in the lineup as he takes time off to recuperate from prior injuries. This opens opportunities for younger talents like Ba’s Samuela Navoce, Sailasa Ratu, and Penisoni Tirau, along with Nadi’s Mohammed Ayman and Labasa’s Eparama Moraica, to gain valuable international experience.
The MSG Prime Minister’s Cup is scheduled to take place in the Solomon Islands from December 9 to December 21.
Fiji’s squad includes:
Goalkeepers: Simione Tamanisau, Akuila Mateisuva, Joela Biuvanua.
Defenders: Mohammed Ayman, Ivan Kumar, Mosese Nabose, Samuela Navoce, Gabirielle Matanisiga, Filipe Baravilala, Sterling Vasconsellos.
Midfielders: Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Aporosa Yada, Setareki Hughes, Nabil Begg, Sailasa Ratu, Rahul Krishna, Merril Nand, Dave Radrigai.
Forwards: Christopher Wasasala, Eparama Moraica, Sairusi Nalabu, Thomas Dunn, Penisoni Tirau.
This fresh lineup focuses on blending experienced players with emerging talents, which signifies a bright future for Fiji football as these younger players will have the chance to shine on an international platform, fostering growth and development for the sport in the nation.
