The Ministry of Education is focused on fostering interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in schools, according to Deputy Permanent Secretary Timoci Bure. This initiative was discussed at the Drive Growth with Digital Transformation Forum held at the Nalagi Hotel in Nadi. The event was part of efforts by the Wuhan Technical University Pacific Centre to build a digitally informed and innovative society in Fiji.
Bure acknowledged that while some educators are hesitant to embrace AI, its introduction could create a more engaging learning environment for students. He pointed out that countries like China have made significant advancements in AI technology, and Fiji is now working to integrate these systems into its educational framework. By utilizing tools like smart boards and diagnostic systems that assess students’ capabilities, the Ministry aims to tailor educational approaches to meet individual needs.
The application of AI in schools is expected to enhance student engagement and learning potential, addressing gaps in the current education system. By adapting to the capabilities of AI, Fiji hopes to ensure students are not left behind or lose interest due to a lack of personalized learning methods.
This aligns with previously emphasized initiatives focusing on the importance of digital literacy and the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education, as highlighted by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro.
