The Fijian government is making significant strides towards digital transformation with a new national budget aimed at enhancing government efficiency and encouraging investment. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, recently announced the ongoing success of the BusinessNow Fiji online portal, which has been operational since September of last year. This platform aims to facilitate business operations by integrating various government services.

By the end of 2024, the BusinessNow Fiji portal is expected to host 25 e-services provided by 16 different government agencies. Kamikamica underscored the importance of digitization as a crucial priority, with a strategic goal to move 80% of core government services online by 2030. He emphasized that this initiative is not merely about digitizing current processes but reimagining how government services function to eliminate inefficiencies and enhance user experiences.

Previously, initiatives aimed at automating various government processes have garnered attention, including projects to automate business registration and construction permit approvals. Kamikamica highlighted that these improvements would lead to faster approval times and increased accountability, ultimately making it easier for entrepreneurs to navigate the business landscape.

The government’s proactive approach to digital solutions is positioned to create a more transparent and efficient environment, thereby attracting both local and international investments. Such developments are exciting for the business community, heralding a future Fijian economy that is more adept in handling modern challenges.

Overall, the ongoing transformation reflects a commitment to innovation and a brighter economic future for Fiji, with the potential to benefit not only the government but also businesses and citizens alike. Embracing technology is expected to offer vast opportunities for growth and development in various sectors across the nation.
