Netball Fiji is excited to announce the final lineup for its 12-member Baby Pearls team, set to compete at the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar from September 19-28. After a comprehensive preparation period that began 18 months ago, the team head coach Simone Nalatu expressed her enthusiasm and pride in the athletes selected, highlighting the hard work and dedication seen during their training.
The Baby Pearls showcased their skills at a recent five-day Invitational tournament, where they faced two international teams. This competition offered invaluable experience and served as an assessment opportunity for the selection panel, ensuring the best talents were included in the final team.
“This milestone announcement reflects our commitment to develop young athletes in netball,” Nalatu commented. She also acknowledged the efforts of the 15 athletes who were part of the wider squad, emphasizing the teamwork that contributed to the selection process.
The team’s preparations have included extensive training sessions, local camp activities, and community engagement through netball clinics, allowing the athletes to build essential skills and foster strong connections with their community. The full roster for the Baby Pearls includes players such as Adi Varanisese Vula, Akisi Bolakoro, and Mereoni Taqiri, among others.
The Baby Pearls’ journey is also about inspiring future generations of netball players in Fiji. With a focus on honing their abilities and developing team cohesion, they look forward to making a significant impact on the international stage. The support from local organizations and the commitment of the players fortifies a hopeful outlook for Fijian netball, underscoring the nation’s emerging talent and the bright future ahead.
