Fijian Business Blooms at Adi Senitoa Festival

A food fair for local businesses is currently taking place in Suva as part of the Adi Senitoa festival this week.

Nemani Saronicava, the event leader, highlighted the participation of food vendors from Namacu, Koro, and Lomaiviti. He noted that after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, many vendors have returned to utilize their land and support their businesses.

Saronicava mentioned that the Crave Crazy Fijian Delicacy, which has been well-established for five years, is re-emerging strongly and has attracted significant attention at major markets in Suva.

The local vendors are working diligently to support their families and revitalize their businesses. As for food prices, they range from $5 to $20, reflecting the current economic climate while aiming to benefit community members and business patrons alike.

Vendors source their food from the local area, focusing on quality ingredients, including fish, meat, taro, and other fresh produce. Popular offerings at the fair include Kokoda, pork, lovo, and various other dishes.

Arieta Ravula, a selected vendor by the Fiji Arts Council, expressed her joy at participating in the festival. At 61 years old and hailing from Namata, Bau, Tailevu, she has been in the business for three years and observes that sales are flourishing.

Ravula shared that unlike larger businesses, they bring just enough cash to sell their handmade items, contributing to the thriving marketplace. She praised the opportunity to connect with other women and uplift one another.

Ravula sells a variety of goods, including handbags, laptop cases, cosmetic bags, and more, with prices ranging from $10 for small bags up to $60 for larger ones.

As the festival progresses, she believes the momentum of her business is improving and everything sold goes back into the community, marking it as a positive outcome for her endeavors.

She revealed that on a good day, she can earn about $1,000 from her sales alone, showcasing her commitment to her craft and the potential for success.

The income generated from this festival helps sustain her household, and she remains dedicated to continuing her business in the future.
